Michelle is Executive Director of the Corporate Tax Association (CTA), Australia’s peak membership body representing the in-house tax functions of the country’s largest corporate taxpayers. She has led the organisation since 2015, having previously served as Assistant Director for over nine years — giving her more than two decades of deep institutional knowledge of Australian corporate tax.

Michelle is one of Australia’s most recognised voices on corporate tax policy and administration. She has over 20 years of experience engaging with government, regulators and multilateral bodies on behalf of large business, and is a trusted interlocutor between the corporate sector and Australia’s tax authorities.

She was a member of the National Tax Liaison Group — the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) principal consultative forum on taxation matters — for nearly 20 years and served as co-chair of the Large Business Stewardship Group for a decade, the primary governance mechanism through which Australia’s largest corporate taxpayers engage with the ATO on compliance and risk.

Michelle is an Executive Committee member of the Australian branch of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the world’s leading independent organisation for the study of international tax law and public finance.

Earlier in her career, Michelle practised as a tax lawyer at MinterEllison, one of Australia’s premier law firms, and began her professional life at the Australian Taxation Office, working across the Large Business and International business line and the Tax Counsel Network.  She holds a combined Arts/Law degree from Monash University, a Master of Taxation Law from the University of New South Wales, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
