Simon has over 15 years’ experience working across government and industry, with a focus on taxation, economic and fiscal policy, public advocacy, and stakeholder relations. Prior to his current position, Simon spent nearly four years at the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) as their Director – Policy and Capital Markets. In his time at APPEA, he led key reforms to both Queensland and Northern Territory Royalties and most recently, the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax changes announced in May 2023. Simon also worked diligently to enhance community awareness of the immense fiscal and taxation contributions of corporate Australia through public advocacy campaigns that included working with government, media and civil society.

Prior to his time at APPEA, Simon had a successful tenure at the ATO, where he held several key roles including leading the ATO’s Energy & Resources Strategy Team, Top 100, and Top 1000 teams, and the ATO’s large business public advice and guidance program. He also spent time at Treasury.

Simon has a Commerce Degree and also holds a Masters in Taxation and Commercial Law. He is a member of ICAANZ and is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
